'Rocky Mountain High'

The world class journey from Banff up to Jasper on The Icefields Parkway can never disappoint, no matter how many times travelled. It has it all, apart from sea views, that is. More mountains, glaciers, snow, lakes and 'wow,,look at thats' than you can shake a stick at.

We had three interesting encounters:

1. An Australian couple who have spent three years in a converted Defender 130 travelling around South America and are now making their way towards Alaska.

2. A German couple in a Toyota conversion that are spending two years travelling from Alaska to Cape Horn. They are on their way south and so, who knows, maybe we'll see them in the southern hemisphere next year in our Model A.

3. A gorgeous, young, genuine, black bear - too thrilling! It was happily chomping on the side of the road paying us no attention. It appeared to be on its own but we took no chances and stayed in the LR just incase mummy was around.

Our home for two nights is about 15 miles from Jasper in a real 'wilderness' camp on the banks of the Athabasca river. They get many bears through the camp and so caution is needed. They also have a trillion mossies wanting to feast on us. The heatwave has travelled with us which makes them worse as, until last week, there had been very heavy rain. Of course, there is no wifi in the woods and so we are sitting in the 'Coin Clean Laundry' in Jasper. This is a wonderful place. You can do the washing, (clothes and self as there are showers), have a cappuccino and use their wifi. What more could your intrepid outdoorsy campers need before heading back to the woods?
