'Eagle' - Abba
Critter count:
1 bald eagle.
What a sighting; a first for us both. Utterly majestic and so handsome. The Alaskan bald eagles are the largest of them all ( they get bigger the further they are from the equator) they have a body forty inches long and a wingspan of eight feet!
Today we left Alaska for the second time; it won't be the last on this adventure though. We went back into the Yukon and through Kluane National Park. Although not raining today, it was very overcast and hazy, so although we could make out the snowy mountains of the Kluane range they were not very clear. Just clear enough for us to realise what we were missing. Mean old clouds. Massive Kluane Lake with its backdrop of jagged peaks is especially beautiful. As so often on this expedition we are almost alone on the roads.
Tonight we are in Whitehorse once again on our way south. It feels wrong to be back tracking but there is no choice as there are very few roads. We will dip into Alaska again soon though. This little town feels very much the big city after where we've been and we have a few errands to do. Not least to try to find somewhere that sells a contraption to put photos on my iPad as I cannot find mine. Most annoying. I'm not sure how successful I'll be.
We are heading into more wilderness after that aiming for Hyder (AK). We won't get that far though as it's 700 miles. The distances are crazy up here.
p. s. photo thing found and Starbucks wifi! Thank you Whitehorse.
