Mendoza!

Today was the last rest day of the rally which means we are in for a pretty hard slog until Ushuaia. It's still around 4,500kms away!

Many of us managed a fairly relaxing day in Mendoza. Tough Steve has been trying to get his cylinder head gasket replaced at a Mercedes garage, a very big problem. The last I heard he is fairly hopeful. I do hope so, he is a hugely experienced rally driver, and he needs to finish. He intended to tackle it in the usual manner - a big cheeky smile, begging and a fist full of dollars.

A small group of us went to visit a winery that offered education and lunch with wine pairings. All wonderful. An engaging, enthusiastic and very informative tour of the winery was first on the agenda and then, lunch. I'm not sure that I have ever had six glasses at a place setting before. The food and wines were delicious, needless to say. The setting beautiful with views of the high, snowy Andes and we now know far more about Mendoza wine making than we did this morning. Mendoza province is the size of France - imagine!

Mendoza is full of lovely shady plazas and has a very relaxed atmosphere. Apart from the taxi drivers, that is. All of the ones we have had have been charming but drive like lunatics. I often think that I will end my days in some foreign taxi. What a silly way to go.

Tomorrow we cross back into Chile and reach Santiago after traversing the high Andes. It won't be long before we're back in Argentina tough.

Are all enchanted by Argentina, you really should come.
