After the majesty of yesterday's drive wondered if today would be a anti climax. Actually, it was rather lovely. We left Salta, a lively quite interesting town with lots of faded colonial buildings, and headed along a fertile valley with little villages along the way and endless fields full of corn and tobacco.
Then, rather unexpectedly, we went through a magnificent area of dramatic canyons and fantastic rock formations all of bright red stone. We stopped at a little shack and bought a couple of wood spoons made out of cactus wood. The family had some very tame llamas, but, best of all, underneath the families ancient,, falling apart car, three friends were sheltering from the eat; a dog, a goose and a chicken. All three huddled together in complete harmony. Marvellous.
The, we entered the wine growing valley of Cafayate, our home for the night. It had been a gentle day of not too great a milage enabling a few of us to have lunch in the pretty Plaza. Yes,that's right; lunch. With a jug of the local vino tinto, obviously. It'll be back to the usual load of rubbish food on the move tomorrow with, a more, rally normal, long driving day.
We gave Messer's Bolsover, Evans and Seymour a ride in the back of our pick up truck. Who knows, If any more cars break down we may be holding a lottery for a space all the way to Ushuaia.
