UNREAL 24 hr. Now in southern Siberia with a Russian car club convoy. Our car has broken gear box. 3G in Russia. So much to say about all that has happened but not from my phone. Sometimes life can be just too adventurous.

Broken in Bolivia

Part I. On reading this mornings post I realised that it was full of typos and errors. Only 7 hours sleep in 48 hrs does that to you. Ironically, I only slept for three hours last night even though I could have had 5 and even though I was so tired I was practically hallucinating Typing on the running board with dozens of Bolivians staring at you doesn't help. Excuses! Anyway, did I tell you how hard the drive was yesterday? Not enough, I feel. Trust me, you never, ever want to experience anything like it. One of the mechanics told us that there were sheer drops of over a thousand feet on the narrow 'road' too. I'm almost glad it was dark. We had our own 'death road'. Actually, the people in the Plaza were rather sweet and polite and all dressed in their Sunday best. Dreamy Haa.

Haa valley is my special place in Bhutan. Remote, cold, outstandingly beautiful it is the essence of the spirit of Bhutan.  Of the few tourists who come to this country only a round 3% make it to Haa and even fewer stay the night.  A couple of years ago I heard about a civil servant, from Paro Dzong, who had converted the farmhouse that had been in his family for generations into a home stay.  I went to look and couldn't believe what I saw. It was marvellous beyond words in every way.  I've stayed there a couple of times since and never fail to be overwhelmed by it. I really wanted the rally to have that experience but, there were not enough rooms.  The owner suggested that the local farmers would be happy to have guests in their houses - a first for them.  And so it was.  We were dotted about in the village and all agreed that we had the night of the rally.
