From sea to (not quite so) shining sea.

We left Gothenburg bright and early, with all of us very excited, for the 500+ Kms to the quaint little town of Tallberg.

Not far out, poor Charlie and Nellie lost the electrics in their Ace, but were soon on the go again, with Charlie McG's expert help.  The only other mishap was Chris and Mark, in an Aston Martin, running out of fuel - the shame of it! No problem they thought, the had a jerry can with spare petrol.  Except, they didn't.  What they had, only discovering it after they started to pour, was a jerry can full of water.  You can guess who got they "could have been a winner" rosette last night!

We went through very pretty countryside, through some deeply rural areas.  Nearly all the houses are wooden, and painted dark red.  As you would expect there are an awful lot of trees and lakes of every size.

We stayed in the Alkerbads Hotel, by the lake, in Tallberg.  What an utter delight that was.  It has been in the same family ownership for 22 generations, only beaten by a business in Japan that has been in family ownership for longer.  Our room was in a cabin and was extremely comfortable.  It felt like a hotel run with great love.  The crystal clear lake was surprisingly warm, not that I was tempted to swim in it!

Today has been fairly leisurely, only 370 Kms. Duncan had found lots of beautiful gravel roads through the back country for parts of it.  We even had a civilised stop for lunch.  It's been cold today and we certainly realised how far north we are as the daffodils are only just out.

Our stop tonight is at Höga Kusten (high cliff) on the eastern Bothnian coast.  We are overlooking the spectacular Högar Kusten bridge, modelled one Golden Gate Bridge, that we crossed to get here.  It's grey and very cloudy but, with a bit of luck, it will be brighter tomorrow so we can see this spectacular bit of coastline, with its hundreds of islands, properly. The hotel is totally wind powered. The wifi is too poor to be able to upload any photos, they'll have to come later.  Maybe it wasn't windy enough today.
